Although the capsule shell looks very difficult to dissolve, it actually dissolves fast enough in a body temperature environment.
According to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, hard capsules should completely disintegrate within 30 minutes of 37℃ water, and soft capsules should completely disintegrate within 1 hour.
The drug in the capsule is not compressed like a tablet, but a loose powder or small particles, which can be quickly released once the capsule shell is broken.
It can be seen that there is nothing wrong with taking a capsule with cold water. Usually, the amount of water delivered to the drug is about 250 mL, which has little effect on the temperature in the digestive tract.
Conversely, if the capsule is delivered with too hot water, the empty capsules will become soft and sticky, may stick to the esophagus, and may also damage the outer shell of the enteric capsule.
